We started at the counter

Sero began with SeroPOS, a point of sale for restaurants and retail, built for the moment when the line is out the door and the kitchen printer is the most important machine in the building. That meant fast screens, offline mode, real kitchen tickets and hardware you can buy anywhere.

Working at the counter taught us where the trouble really starts: after close, when the day’s sales have to become books, the stock has to be counted and the staff have to be paid.

Then we built the books

SeroBooks grew out of SeroPOS so that the till, the shelf and the ledger could be one system. It is accounting software for Canadian and US businesses that move real things: invoicing, serial and batch inventory, purchasing, GST/HST/PST and US sales tax, banking and year-end in one double-entry ledger, with familiar menus for people leaving QuickBooks Desktop.

Then payroll, on its own

Payroll was built inside SeroBooks first: every province and territory, each with its own vacation, holiday and overtime rules, reconciled to the CRA calculator. Employers kept asking for it without changing their accounting, so we released it on its own as SeroPayroll.

What we believe

Business software should be fast, respect the keyboard and keep books an accountant can sign. Prices belong on the page. Limits belong beside the features. And AI that can act on your business should be governed like an employee — which is why Maya never acts without approval.
