What you get

Retail stores, handled by Sero

Fast barcode checkout

Scan, apply a discount, take mixed tender and print or email the receipt. Hold a sale while a customer grabs one more item, then resume it.

Real-time inventory

Every sale, return and adjustment updates stock on hand. Low-stock alerts flag items before the shelf goes empty.

Purchase orders and suppliers

Build purchase orders from low-stock items, receive against them and keep supplier details and costs in one place.

Works offline

If the internet drops, SeroPOS keeps selling and syncs once the connection is back, so a bad Wi-Fi day doesn’t close the store.

25+ live reports

Sales, profit and loss, tax, stock and staff performance reports export to Excel or PDF for your own review or your accountant.

Accounting in the same system

Sync sales to SeroBooks, QuickBooks Online or Xero, or use the built-in double-entry accounting in SeroPOS.

A checkout built for a busy counter

Retail lines move on the speed of the scan. SeroPOS opens to a fast sale screen with barcode scanning, quick-tap buttons you can arrange by drag and drop, and per-category colours so new staff find items without hunting. Discounts, returns and refunds sit on the same screen, and a sale can be held while the customer runs back for a forgotten item.

Payment is just as flexible. Take cash, card and split tender on one ticket, then send the receipt by email or SMS or print it on a standard ESC/POS printer. Cash drawers, label printers and barcode scanners plug in without proprietary lock-in, and the app runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Mac.

  • Barcode scanning and label printing
  • Hold and resume sales
  • Mixed tender and split payments
  • Returns, refunds and discounts at the till
  • Email, SMS or printed receipts

Inventory you can trust at closing time

Every sale and return moves stock on hand in real time, so the count on screen matches the shelf. Low-stock alerts tell you what is running thin, and stock adjustments record shrinkage, damage and recounts with a reason instead of a silent edit. Bulk changes go in through Excel import and export, which helps when a supplier sends a new price list.

When something runs low, SeroPOS turns it into a purchase order against the right supplier. Receive the delivery against the order and stock updates as soon as you confirm it. If you run more than one store, stock transfers move product between locations with a record of what left and what arrived.

  • Live stock on hand after every sale and return
  • Low-stock alerts
  • Purchase orders by supplier
  • Stock adjustments with reasons
  • Transfers between locations

Books that keep up with the store

Most retail owners lose their evenings to reconciling the till against the bank. SeroBooks grew out of SeroPOS to fix that, so sales, purchase orders, supplier bills and payments land in one double-entry ledger. Inventory is valued properly, landed cost can be added to stock, and GST/HST/PST or US sales tax is tracked by jurisdiction.

Bank activity comes in through CSV import with matching rules, with live bank feeds through Plaid rolling out. Month-end reports, 160+ of them, are ready when you are, and your accountant can be given access without sharing your login. Prefer your current accounting tool? SeroPOS Pro syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero.

Staff, shifts and payroll

SeroPOS includes register shifts and Z-reports so every cash-up is tied to a person and a drawer. Role-based permissions decide who can give discounts, issue refunds or open the drawer without a sale, and staff performance reports show who sold what. Attendance, leave and shift scheduling live in the built-in HRM tools.

When it is time to pay people, SeroPayroll handles Canadian payroll for all 13 provinces and territories from $25 a month for up to 10 employees, including CPP, EI, vacation pay, statutory holidays, T4s and ROEs. US stores can run payroll inside SeroBooks Pro, which covers federal and state withholding.

Selling online as well as in store

Many independent stores now sell on a website as well as at the counter. SeroPOS includes an online catalogue with cart and checkout, and it syncs two ways with Shopify, plus WooCommerce and Amazon. Stock stays aligned across channels, so an item sold online doesn’t get sold again at the till.

Web orders arrive in a queue on the POS where staff pick, pack and mark them complete. Customer profiles and loyalty points work across channels, so a regular who buys online still earns points they can redeem in the shop. Customer groups and price groups also let you offer trade or staff pricing without creating duplicate products.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best POS system for a small retail store?

The right retail POS scans barcodes quickly, tracks inventory in real time, handles returns and works offline. SeroPOS does all of that, adds purchase orders, suppliers and loyalty, and runs on hardware you may already own. Plans start at $29.99 a month for Standard and $49.99 for Pro, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required.

Does SeroPOS work with my existing barcode scanner and receipt printer?

In most cases, yes. SeroPOS supports ESC/POS receipt printers from Epson, Star and compatible brands over USB or network, along with barcode scanners, label printers and cash drawers. There is no proprietary hardware requirement, and the app runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows PCs and Macs.

Can I keep using QuickBooks or Xero for my store’s accounting?

Yes. SeroPOS Pro syncs sales and other activity to QuickBooks Online and Xero. You can also connect SeroPOS to SeroBooks, our own accounting software, or use the double-entry accounting built into SeroPOS. Many owners start with a sync and move to SeroBooks when they want inventory and books in one ledger.

What happens to sales if the internet goes down?

SeroPOS has an offline mode, so you can keep ringing up sales when the connection drops. Transactions are stored on the device and sync once the internet returns. Card payments depend on your terminal and processor, so check how your payment setup behaves offline before relying on it.

Can I run more than one retail location?

Yes. SeroPOS supports chain store management with consolidated reporting across locations, stock transfers between stores and per-location staff permissions. SeroBooks supports multi-location as well, with an extra location available as a $100 a month add-on beyond what your plan includes.
