Built for Canada, not localized to it

A lot of accounting and payroll software is designed for one market and adapted for Canada later. The gaps show up in the details: a PST rule that does not match your province, a Québec employee who needs QPP and QPIP, a year-end that still ends in a spreadsheet for your accountant to rekey into GIFI.

Sero Technologies is based in British Columbia, and SeroBooks treats 13 Canadian jurisdictions for payroll and tax as core scope. Sales tax, payroll deductions, statutory holidays and year-end slips were written against Canadian rules from the start, then the US was added alongside. Canadian rules are the default, not a settings page you have to find.

Sales tax in every province

SeroBooks handles GST, HST, PST and QST for every province, so a business selling from Ontario into BC or from Alberta into Québec charges the right combination on each invoice. Tax codes follow the sale through to the ledger, and the Sales Tax Centre pulls it together when it is time to file.

SeroPOS applies tax at the counter and passes the sale to SeroBooks, so restaurants and retailers are not reconciling two sets of tax totals at the end of the period. Tax reports in both products export to Excel or PDF for your records. If you sell online through SeroPOS, the same tax rules apply to web orders.

  • GST and HST for federal and harmonized provinces
  • PST for BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
  • QST for Québec
  • Sales Tax Centre to prepare and file returns

Year-end: T2, GIFI and CCA

At year-end, SeroBooks maps your accounts to GIFI codes so your accountant receives numbers ready for the T2 corporate return. Period locks stop anyone posting into a closed year, and the audit trail shows what changed and who changed it. Adjustments your accountant makes are visible to you, and yours are visible to them.

Fixed assets track capital cost allowance by class, so depreciation for tax is calculated in the same system as your books. Records are retained for six years, in line with CRA expectations, and accountants get practice seats free so they can do the year-end work directly in your file. No more emailing backups.

Payroll for every province and territory

SeroPayroll covers all 13 provinces and territories with CPP and CPP2, EI including Québec’s reduced rate, T4127 federal and provincial tax, and QPP, QPP2 and QPIP. Vacation pay, statutory holidays and overtime follow each statute, from Ontario’s 44-hour week to BC’s daily two-tier rules. Thirteen holiday calendars cover each jurisdiction.

Remittances run on the CRA calendar with PD7A support for quarterly, regular and accelerated filers, plus Revenu Québec TPZ-1015. Employer levies such as WCB, WSIB, CNESST, Ontario EHT and the Québec HSF are calculated too. SeroPayroll starts at $25/mo for up to 10 employees, and SeroBooks Pro includes payroll in the same ledger.

  • T4 and T4 Summary XML, T4A and T5018
  • ROE .BLK files for ROE Web with the 5-day deadline tracked
  • RL-1 slips (slips only, no e-transmission)
  • Direct deposit as a CPA 005 file for RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC and Desjardins

One system from till to T4

For a Canadian restaurant or store, the pieces connect. SeroPOS takes the sale and applies the right tax, SeroBooks records it in one double-entry ledger, and payroll posts each pay run to the general ledger once, never twice. Your accountant sees one set of books instead of three exports that need stitching.

Prices are in USD and every product starts with a 14-day free trial. SeroPOS Standard is $29.99/mo, SeroBooks Starter is $79.99/mo and SeroPayroll starts at $25/mo, so you can start with the piece you need most and add the rest later. The data you build up in one product carries into the next.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroBooks handle GST, HST, PST and QST?

Yes. SeroBooks supports GST, HST, PST and QST for every province, applies the right combination on each invoice and bill, and includes a Sales Tax Centre for preparing and filing returns. SeroPOS charges the same taxes at the counter and passes sales through to SeroBooks, so your tax totals come from a single ledger.

Can SeroBooks help with T2 and GIFI?

SeroBooks maps your chart of accounts to GIFI so your accountant gets T2-ready figures at year-end. It also tracks fixed assets with CCA classes, locks closed periods and keeps an audit trail. Accountants get free practice seats, so they can work in your file directly instead of asking for exports.

Which provinces does SeroPayroll support?

All 13 provinces and territories. SeroPayroll calculates CPP/CPP2, EI, QPP/QPIP and T4127 income tax, plus vacation pay, statutory holidays and overtime by each statute. It produces T4 XML, ROE .BLK files and PD7A remittance figures. Plans start at $25/mo for up to 10 employees, with a 14-day free trial.

Does SeroPayroll send direct deposits itself?

No. SeroPayroll creates a CPA 005 direct-deposit file that you upload to your bank, with formats for RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC and Desjardins. It does not move money on its own. You can also produce e-transfer lists and print cheques, and every pay run posts to your general ledger once.

Is Sero a Canadian company?

Yes. Sero Technologies is the trade name of Inputly AI Inc., a British Columbia corporation. SeroPOS, SeroBooks and SeroPayroll are built in Canada for Canadian and US businesses, and the infrastructure runs on Microsoft Azure. SeroPayroll is available in English and Canadian French.
