Payroll built for Canadian statutes
Canadian payroll is really thirteen sets of employment standards plus federal rules. Vacation pay, statutory holidays and overtime all differ by province, and Québec runs its own pension and parental insurance plans. SeroPayroll handles all 13 provinces and territories, and 14 jurisdictions including federal are reconciled to the CRA’s own payroll calculator, so the amounts on each stub can be checked against an independent source.
Deductions cover CPP and CPP2, EI including Québec’s reduced rate, T4127 federal and provincial income tax, QPP, QPP2 and QPIP, and taxable benefits. Rates are stored as data rather than written into the program, so when a rate or threshold changes, updates arrive without reinstalling software or waiting for a once-a-year release.
Pay runs you can trust
Every pay run follows the same path: calculate, approve, post, settle. A posted run is reversed rather than edited, so there is always a clean record of what was paid and why, and the design means a run cannot be paid twice by accident. Bonus and off-cycle runs, holding one employee back, and weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly or monthly schedules are all supported.
Pay stubs show year-to-date figures with masked SINs and can be printed, emailed or paid by cheque. Direct deposit produces a CPA 005 bank file for RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC or Desjardins that you upload to your bank; SeroPayroll does not move money itself, which keeps control of your payroll account with you.

SeroPayroll or SeroBooks Pro?
SeroPayroll is payroll on its own, for businesses that keep their books somewhere else. It runs as a Windows desktop app and on the web, in English and Canadian French, and exports GL journals as CSV or IIF-style files for your accounting system. Starter covers up to 10 employees for $25 a month in USD; Team covers 11 to 50 employees for $50 a month.
SeroBooks Pro, at $300 a month, includes the same Canadian payroll inside the accounting ledger, plus US payroll for businesses with American staff. A pay run posts to the general ledger once, never twice, with no journal export to import. The same login works across SeroBooks and SeroPayroll, so moving from one to the other later is straightforward.
Year-end, remittances and levies
Remittances follow the CRA calendar for quarterly, regular and accelerated remitters, with PD7A amounts ready for each period, and Revenu Québec TPZ-1015 for Québec source deductions. Employer levies such as WCB, WSIB and CNESST premiums, Ontario EHT, Manitoba’s HAPSE levy, Newfoundland and Labrador’s HAPSET and Québec’s HSF are calculated with each run.
At year-end, SeroPayroll produces T4 and T4 Summary XML, T4A and T5018 slips, RL-1 slips for Québec, and ROE .BLK files for Service Canada’s ROE Web with the five-day deadline tracked. A PIER review checks CPP and EI before the CRA runs its own review, so under-deductions can be corrected while they are still easy to fix.
