What’s available now and what’s rolling out
Every SeroBooks plan can import bank transactions from CSV today. Most Canadian and US banks let you download statements in CSV from online banking, and SeroBooks reads them, applies your rules and lines the transactions up for matching and reconciliation. Once you’ve mapped a bank’s columns, later imports from that bank take a minute or two.
Live bank feeds through Plaid are rolling out. When your account has them, transactions arrive automatically instead of by download, and the rest of the workflow stays the same. Until then, CSV import does the same job with one extra step. We’d rather say that plainly than suggest every bank connects automatically today.
How rules save time
Most bank activity repeats month after month: rent, payroll, card processing deposits, software subscriptions, loan payments, utility bills. SeroBooks rules match those lines by description, amount or both, and suggest the account, tax code or contact. You review and confirm instead of coding each line from scratch, which is where most bookkeeping time goes.
Deposits from SeroPOS, Stripe or card terminals match against the sales already recorded, and supplier payments match against open bills. What’s left after the rules run is the handful of unusual lines that genuinely need a human decision. Over a few months, as rules accumulate, that leftover list gets shorter and month-end gets quicker.

Security with Plaid
Plaid is a widely used bank-connection service. When you connect a bank through Plaid, your bank username and password go to Plaid, not to Sero, and SeroBooks receives transaction data through Plaid’s connection. You can disconnect the link at any time, and nobody at Sero ever sees or stores your banking credentials.
That fits the rest of SeroBooks security: TLS in transit, encryption at rest, per-business tenant isolation, OAuth sessions with step-up authentication, server-enforced permissions, and an append-only audit trail. Period locks stop anyone changing a month once it has been closed and reconciled, so the figures your accountant signed off stay put.
Reconciliation and cash flow
Once transactions are matched, the bank reconciliation screen compares SeroBooks with the statement balance. Differences are visible line by line, so an unexplained gap is traced in minutes rather than hours. A reconciled period can then be locked, so nobody edits it later by accident and throws last month’s balance out.
The same bank data feeds cash-flow reports, the cash-flow projector, budgets, recurring transactions and the loan manager. You can see where cash is heading over the coming weeks without exporting to a spreadsheet, which matters most for seasonal businesses and anyone planning a large inventory purchase or a new location.
Frequently asked questions
Does SeroBooks have live bank feeds?
Live bank feeds through Plaid are rolling out and may not be available on your account yet. Every SeroBooks plan can import bank transactions from CSV today, with matching rules that code recurring transactions quickly and match deposits and payments to sales and bills you’ve already recorded.
How do I import bank transactions into SeroBooks?
Download a CSV statement from your bank’s online banking and import it in SeroBooks. Map the columns the first time, and later imports from the same bank are quick. Your rules suggest accounts and contacts, deposits and payments are matched, and then you reconcile to the statement balance.
Does Sero see my bank password?
No. When you connect through Plaid, your bank credentials are handled by Plaid and never touch Sero. With CSV import, you download the file from your bank yourself, so no bank login is involved at all. Either way, Sero only receives transaction data.
Which banks work with CSV import?
Most Canadian and US banks offer a CSV download in online banking, including business accounts and credit cards. SeroBooks reads standard CSV statements and lets you map the columns once per bank, so later imports go quickly. If your bank uses an unusual layout, the mapping step handles it.
Can I lock a period after reconciling?
Yes. SeroBooks supports period locks and year-end close. After you reconcile a month, you can lock it so entries can’t be changed by accident, and any change that is made, by anyone, is recorded in the append-only audit trail with who made it and when.
