How the two are sold

Clover, owned by Fiserv, is sold directly and through banks and independent resellers, as of 2026 per its public site. The hardware, processing and software often come as one package, and the terms you get, including any hardware lease or contract length, can depend on who sold it to you. Two merchants on Clover may have quite different deals.

SeroPOS is self-serve. You download the app from the App Store, Google Play, Microsoft Store or Mac App Store, start a 14-day free trial with no credit card, and choose a processor separately. There are no contracts or onboarding fees, and the published price is the same for every business that signs up.

Hardware and processing

With SeroPOS, the register is any iPhone, iPad, Android device, Windows PC or Mac. Standard ESC/POS receipt printers from Epson, Star and compatibles, kitchen printers, barcode scanners, label printers and cash drawers work over USB or the network with auto-detect. If a device fails on a Saturday, you can replace it from any electronics store.

For cards, Global Payments with the Verifone T650p Android terminal is our recommendation, and Moneris and Gravity Payments are supported. Send us your current statement and we’ll beat your rate. Because the processor isn’t bundled into the software, you can revisit that decision whenever rates or service stop working for you.

Back-office depth

SeroPOS includes purchase orders, suppliers, transfers, lot and expiry tracking, recipes with ingredient costing, customer loyalty, a CRM with campaigns and follow-ups, HRM for attendance, leave and shifts, and 25+ live reports, without stitching together add-on apps from a marketplace and paying for each one separately. Everything is included in the plan you choose.

Sales post into SeroBooks for full accounting, with GST/HST/PST/QST and US sales tax handled and 160+ reports available. SeroPOS Pro also syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero if your accountant prefers them. Multi-location businesses get chain management and consolidated reporting on every plan, not as an upgrade. Your accountant gets clean, coded entries either way.

  • Inventory with POs and transfers
  • Loyalty, CRM and customer groups
  • Attendance, leave and shifts
  • Accounting on one ledger

When Clover may be the better fit

If your bank or a local reseller offers a Clover package with terms you like, and you value having someone local install, configure and support the hardware in person, Clover can be a good choice. Its devices are polished and purpose-built, and its app market adds many specialized features for particular industries.

Clover may also suit merchants who want their processor, hardware and software from one provider, with one point of contact, and who don’t plan to shop processing rates. If you’re already on Clover and content with your agreement, the cost and effort of switching may outweigh what you’d gain. Clover’s scale and bank partnerships are real strengths.

Moving from Clover

Check the terms of your current merchant agreement and any hardware lease before switching, including notice periods and early termination fees, so there are no surprises. Then export your items and import them into SeroPOS using Excel import, and review modifiers, variations and tax settings after the import. Keep a copy of your sales history for your records.

Our onboarding includes a guided getting-started flow, knowledge base articles on every admin screen, demo data to practise with and live in-app chat. Many businesses run SeroPOS alongside their old system for a few days during the trial, then switch over on a quiet day once staff are comfortable. There are no onboarding fees for any of it.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeroPOS a good Clover alternative?

Yes, if you want to run your POS on devices you already own, choose your processor and get inventory and accounting without add-on apps. SeroPOS costs $29.99 or $49.99 a month in USD, with no contracts, no onboarding fees and a 14-day free trial that doesn’t need a credit card.

Can I use my Clover hardware with SeroPOS?

SeroPOS runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Mac rather than on Clover’s own devices. It does work with standard ESC/POS receipt printers, kitchen printers, barcode scanners and cash drawers you may already have, so part of your existing setup can often be reused when you switch.

Which processors work with SeroPOS?

Global Payments with the Verifone T650p is the recommended option, and Moneris and Gravity Payments are supported for in-store cards. Stripe and PayPal handle online and QR payments. Send us your current processing statement and we’ll offer a lower rate through Global Payments.

Do I have to sign a contract with Sero?

No. SeroPOS has no contracts and no onboarding fees. You pay monthly or yearly, with yearly billing at $299.99 for Standard or $499.99 for Pro, and there’s a 14-day free trial that doesn’t need a credit card. You can stop at any time.

How do I leave Clover?

Review your Clover merchant agreement and any hardware lease for terms, notice periods and fees. Then export your item list, import it into SeroPOS, set up your terminal and printers, and run both systems for a short overlap if you like before switching over completely.
