Different starting points
Shopify POS starts from the online store. As of 2026, per Shopify’s public site, it’s included with Shopify plans, with a POS Pro upgrade for more advanced retail features at each location. It’s a natural choice for brands whose business is mostly online and who want their shop counter to behave like another sales channel of the website.
SeroPOS starts from the counter. It’s a complete in-store system with inventory, purchasing, staff management and accounting, and its two-way Shopify sync means you can keep Shopify for the website while running the shop on SeroPOS. Products, prices and stock stay aligned in both directions, and online orders arrive in the SeroPOS queue.
When the store is more than retail
If you run a café in a bookshop, a bakery with packaged goods, a deli counter in a grocery store or a taproom that sells merchandise, you need restaurant tools as well as retail ones. SeroPOS includes floor plans, kitchen order tickets, a kitchen display, nested modifiers with upcharges and split bills in the same app as barcode retail.
Shopify POS is focused on retail. That’s fine for many brands, but for mixed businesses it can mean a second system for the food side, with its own menu, its own reports and its own end-of-day close. Running both sides in SeroPOS keeps one set of numbers and one staff login.
Inventory, payments and accounting
SeroPOS inventory includes purchase orders, suppliers, transfers between locations, lot and expiry tracking and recipes. For in-store cards you choose Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments rather than being tied to one processor, and we offer to beat your current rate if you send us a statement from your existing provider.
Sales post to SeroBooks, which handles Canadian and US sales tax, inventory valuation and 160+ reports, or sync to QuickBooks Online and Xero on SeroPOS Pro. Amazon sellers can add SeroBooks for Amazon to account for settlements, fees and marketplace-facilitator tax, so every channel ends up in one ledger. Tax is recorded as a liability, never as revenue.

When Shopify POS may be the better fit
If your business is mainly online, you sell at pop-ups or run a single small shop, and you want one admin for everything, Shopify POS keeps life simple. Shopify’s app ecosystem is very large, Shopify Payments is quick to set up, and your staff work in the same interface you use to manage the website.
For brands that already depend heavily on Shopify apps for loyalty, subscriptions, reviews or marketing, staying inside Shopify can be less work than connecting another system. If your in-store needs are light and you don’t serve food, the extra depth of SeroPOS may simply not be necessary. Simplicity has real value.
Using both
Many retailers keep Shopify for the website and use SeroPOS at the counter. The two-way sync keeps catalogue, prices and stock aligned, online orders arrive in the SeroPOS queue for pickup or shipping, and ShipStation can handle labels. Your website stays exactly as it is, and only the in-store system changes.
Try SeroPOS free for 14 days with no credit card. Connect a few test products first to see how the sync behaves, then widen it to the full catalogue once you’re confident. Standard is $29.99/mo and Pro is $49.99/mo in USD, with no contracts or onboarding fees. Our team can help with product mapping.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use SeroPOS with my Shopify store?
Yes. SeroPOS has a two-way Shopify integration. Products, variations, prices and stock stay aligned, and Shopify orders appear in the SeroPOS order queue alongside in-store sales. Your website stays on Shopify while the shop counter runs on SeroPOS, with one inventory count shared between them.
Is SeroPOS better than Shopify POS for restaurants?
SeroPOS includes restaurant features such as floor plans, kitchen order tickets, a kitchen display, nested modifiers and split bills, alongside retail tools. Shopify POS is focused on retail, so food businesses, and mixed businesses with a café or deli counter, often find SeroPOS a better fit.
Do I need Shopify Payments with SeroPOS?
No. SeroPOS uses Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments for in-store cards, and Stripe or PayPal for its own online and QR payments. Your Shopify store keeps whatever payment setup you already use there, so nothing changes for online customers.
How does accounting work with Shopify and SeroPOS?
Sales from the counter and from Shopify flow through SeroPOS into SeroBooks, or into QuickBooks Online or Xero on SeroPOS Pro. Tax is recorded separately from revenue, and online and in-store sales end up in one ledger, which makes channel profitability much easier to see.
What does Shopify POS cost?
Per Shopify’s public site, POS is included with Shopify plans and POS Pro is an additional charge per location. Prices change, so check their current plans directly. SeroPOS is $29.99 or $49.99 a month in USD, with a 14-day free trial and no contracts.
