The problem with channel-by-channel bookkeeping

A brand selling on its own site, on Amazon and at the occasional pop-up ends up with money arriving from several processors, stock spread across a warehouse and FBA, and a sales tax footprint that grows quietly with every state or province it ships to. Booking each payout as a lump sum hides fees, refunds and tax inside one number.

SeroBooks puts all of it on one double-entry ledger. Amazon settlements and Stripe payouts post with their components, inventory moves are recorded as they happen, and sales tax is tracked by jurisdiction. The result is a P&L by channel you can trust and a balance sheet that matches the warehouse.

How the channels connect

Sero splits the job between two products. SeroBooks connects directly to Amazon through the Selling Partner API and Amazon Ads, and to Stripe. SeroPOS handles storefront sync: a two-way Shopify integration, WooCommerce, Amazon and ShipStation for shipping labels, plus an online catalogue with cart and checkout if you want a simple store of your own.

SeroPOS includes double-entry accounting and syncs to SeroBooks, so orders that come in through Shopify or WooCommerce land in the same ledger as your Amazon and Stripe activity. If you sell in person at markets or a showroom, the same SeroPOS app takes those payments too. You can grow into more channels without rebuilding your bookkeeping each time.

Inventory, kits and landed cost

SeroBooks treats inventory as inventory, not a list of SKUs. Stock valuation, warehouse bins and transfers keep counts honest across locations. Assemblies let you build gift sets, bundles or kits from component stock, so selling a bundle relieves the right components and cost of goods sold stays accurate. Stock at your warehouse and stock sent to Amazon are both visible in the same reports.

Landed cost spreads freight, duty and brokerage across units from each shipment, which matters for brands importing from overseas manufacturers. Batch and expiry tracking covers cosmetics, supplements and food, and serial numbers cover electronics. Foreign-currency bills handle suppliers who invoice in other currencies. That keeps cost of goods accurate for every product you import.

Sales tax and economic nexus

In the US, selling online can create sales tax obligations in states where you have no physical presence once you pass their economic nexus thresholds. SeroBooks watches economic nexus across 50 states so you can see when you are approaching a threshold, and handles US sales tax on your invoices.

Canadian brands get GST/HST, PST and QST for every province and a Sales Tax Centre for preparing returns. Where Amazon collects tax as marketplace facilitator, SeroBooks separates that from tax you owe yourself, so your returns and revenue are not overstated. Filing gets simpler when every channel’s tax is already sorted by jurisdiction.

Planning, people and growth

Demand forecasting with two lead times, one for production and one for shipping, helps time reorders so you are not paying to store excess or losing sales to stockouts. On SeroBooks Pro, forecasting is included, and Maya, the AI employee in SeroBooks, can draft purchase orders and reorder points for your approval.

As the team grows, SeroPayroll runs Canadian payroll from $25 USD a month for up to 10 employees, and SeroBooks Pro at $300 USD a month adds payroll for Canada and the US, job costing and an audit trail. Roles and permissions are enforced on the server, so contractors and staff see only what they need.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroBooks integrate with Shopify?

Shopify sync is a SeroPOS feature rather than a direct SeroBooks integration. SeroPOS syncs two-way with Shopify and also connects to WooCommerce, Amazon and ShipStation. SeroPOS then syncs into SeroBooks, so your Shopify orders end up in the same ledger as your Amazon and Stripe activity.

What does SeroBooks connect to directly?

SeroBooks connects directly to Amazon through the Selling Partner API, to Amazon Ads, and to Stripe. It also works with Global Payments and Moneris card terminals, bank CSV import with rules, and Plaid bank connections, which are rolling out. QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online imports are available for switching.

Can SeroBooks track economic nexus?

Yes. SeroBooks watches economic nexus thresholds across 50 US states so you can see where your online sales may be creating a sales tax obligation. It also handles US sales tax on invoices and Canadian GST/HST, PST and QST, with a Sales Tax Centre for preparing returns.

Can I sell bundles and kits?

Yes. SeroBooks supports assemblies, so a bundle or gift set can be built from component items. When it sells, the components are relieved from stock and cost of goods sold reflects their actual cost. Landed cost, batches, expiry dates and serial numbers are also supported for brands that need them.

Which plan should an e-commerce brand choose?

If Amazon is your main channel, SeroBooks for Amazon at $150 USD a month includes the Amazon tools. Brands that sell mostly through their own site often start on Starter at $79.99 or Standard at $150 USD a month, adding the Amazon module for $100 USD a month if needed. Pro at $300 adds payroll and forecasting.
