Why offer PayPal

Some customers would rather not type a card number into a site they haven’t used before. Offering PayPal at checkout gives them a familiar option and can help close orders that might otherwise be abandoned at the payment step. For a small restaurant or shop building a direct online channel, every completed order matters.

SeroPOS supports PayPal for its online store and QR ordering, next to Stripe. You choose which to offer, or offer both, and the order flow is the same either way. Customers pick the payment method they trust, and your staff handle the order exactly as they would any other, without needing to know how it was paid.

How PayPal orders flow

A customer builds an order on your SeroPOS online store or by scanning a QR code at the table, then pays with PayPal. The paid order arrives in the SeroPOS web-order queue and prints or displays in the kitchen for restaurants, or goes to picking for retail. Nobody has to check a separate PayPal inbox to see what was ordered.

Because the menu and catalogue come from SeroPOS, there’s no second system to update when you change prices or mark items unavailable. Modifiers and upcharges carry through too, so the kitchen sees exactly what the customer chose. The order is recorded once, with its payment, and appears in the same reports as every counter sale.

Reporting and reconciliation

PayPal is reported as its own tender in SeroPOS, so shift and Z-reports show how much came in through PayPal versus card or cash. That makes matching PayPal transfers to your bank much simpler, because you know what to expect before the money arrives. Discrepancies show up quickly instead of at quarter-end.

Sales then flow into SeroBooks, or to QuickBooks Online or Xero on SeroPOS Pro, where PayPal fees can be recorded as an expense instead of hiding inside net deposits. Your revenue figure stays honest, and you can see what each payment method actually costs you, which helps when deciding which options to keep offering.

Other payment options

SeroPOS supports nine payment gateways in total. Stripe handles online cards, and Global Payments, Moneris and Gravity Payments cover in-store terminals. Global Payments with the Verifone T650p is our recommended in-store option, and we offer to beat your current processing rate. Some regional gateways are also available for businesses outside North America.

Most North American businesses pair an in-store terminal partner with Stripe or PayPal online, so every tender reports into one place. Whatever combination you choose, the sale screen, the kitchen and the reports work the same way, and your accountant receives one consistent set of figures from SeroPOS, whichever processors you use.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroPOS accept PayPal?

Yes. SeroPOS supports PayPal for its online store and QR self-ordering. Customers choose PayPal at checkout, and the paid order arrives in SeroPOS like any other sale, ready for the kitchen or for fulfilment. PayPal payments appear as their own tender in shift and Z-reports for reconciliation.

Can I use PayPal for in-store payments?

SeroPOS uses PayPal for online and QR payments. For in-store card payments it works with terminal partners: Global Payments with the Verifone T650p, Moneris, and Gravity Payments. All tenders report into the same SeroPOS reports and flow into the same accounting ledger.

Can I offer both PayPal and Stripe?

Yes. SeroPOS supports both for online and QR payments, so you can offer PayPal and card checkout side by side. Each appears as its own tender in reports, which keeps reconciliation clear and lets you see how many customers prefer each option over time.

How do PayPal sales reach my accounting?

PayPal sales are recorded in SeroPOS and flow into SeroBooks directly, or to QuickBooks Online and Xero through the sync included in SeroPOS Pro. PayPal fees can then be recorded separately from revenue, so your income statement shows true sales and true payment costs.

Is there an extra fee from Sero for PayPal?

Sero doesn’t list a separate charge for the PayPal option. PayPal charges its own processing fees under your PayPal account, as it would anywhere else. SeroPOS plans are $29.99 a month for Standard and $49.99 a month for Pro, in USD, with a 14-day free trial.
